In the heart of London's bustling and innovative financial district, I find myself a part of an exciting journey as a Trainee Business Analyst at Holley Holland- a global consultancy that services financial institutions to help them overcome technical, regulatory, data and business challenges.

As part of an energetic and focused team, I play a key role in helping them assist clients in navigating the complexities of the financial landscape. My responsibilities involve providing market leading solutions that deliver technical capabilities to meet business requirements.

Learning and research

I kickstart the day by checking emails, reviewing updates from the previous day, and crafting a plan for the day ahead. The dynamic nature of the financial industry demands staying up to date on emerging trends, so I dedicate my mornings to enhancing my knowledge and conducting research, guided by my plan. A part of this involves delving into user requirements, analysing financial reports, and immersing myself in industry journals to stay up to date.

Preparation for meetings and client calls

As the day progresses, as part of my client work my focus shifts towards delving into project documents, examining data using sophisticated using tools like Solidatus and Fraxses, and producing presentations that pave the way forward towards fulfilling user requirements.

Afternoon

Afternoon meetings & hybrid working

At 1pm, I take a break to refuel with a quick and healthy lunch or I might catch up with my colleagues in the US as they start their workday. At Holley Holland hybrid working doesn’t mean isolation; in fact, we encourage teamwork and collaboration, which work well to  to overcome the geographical barriers and work effectively with clients around the world.

Our afternoon meetings provide an opportunity to share our findings, discuss strategies, and update each other on our project progress. These meetings are vital in, gaining a deeper understanding of our clients’ needs.

Analysing, reflecting, and mentorship

After a productive day of learning and meetings, I like to take time to reflect on the lessons learned and the key takeaways from the day's activities. I seek guidance from more experienced colleagues, including senior Business Analysts, Project Managers, and Data Analysts, who generously share their insights and expertise. Listening to their perspectives enables me to broaden my understanding and identify areas for improvement. Self-reflection and mentorship not only enhance my personal growth but also strengthens the bond within our team and helps enhance collaboration.
